Pottery Spawns the Entrepreneurial Journey

Earlier this month the dynamic duo behind Pigeon and the Hen Pottery graced CASB Middle School students with their presence, delivering an inspiring presentation tailored for our sixth-grade students, focusing on the entrepreneurial journey. Engaging the students with tales of their business’s inception, the owners candidly shared the challenges and triumphs encountered along their path. They generously imparted valuable advice, leaving an indelible mark on budding entrepreneurs.

Remarkably, the Pigeon and the Hen ladies celebrated a decade of business success this year, a testament to their resilience and passion. The CASB sixth-graders had the delightful opportunity to express their creativity by painting personalized ornaments for our Christmas tree that will be proudly displayed in the CASB 6th grade flex area. Needless to say, the activity was a resounding success, with the students thoroughly enjoying every moment of the artistic endeavor. The visit not only left a lasting impact on our young minds but also added a festive touch to the anticipation of the holiday season.

Mighty Giants Learn About Hydroponics and Cultivation

The 2nd and 3rd grade classes from Success Academy at Boys and Girls Club embarked on an enriching journey to Pure Green Farms, immersing themselves in the captivating narrative of lettuce growth facilitated by hydroponic units. Guided by Joe McGuire, our esteemed tour leader and collaborator, the students were able to gain insights into the intricate world of cultivation, with McGuire emphasizing the pivotal role played by the finely tuned peat mixture—a harmonious blend of soil and wood fibers.

McGuire skillfully unveiled the meticulous process, starting from the strategic placement of seeds in specialized gutters, each designed to hold 124 seeds, to the controlled climate conditions of the greenhouse. The seeds embarked on a 25-day odyssey to germination, culminating in the mature lettuce-laden gutter’s journey to the packaging plant. Post-harvest, the gutter underwent a thorough cleaning process, ensuring sustainability through reuse. The spectacle of this remarkable cycle left our students spellbound, deepening their appreciation for agricultural innovation.

Our Mighty Giants seized the opportunity to engage with Pure Green Farm’s multifaceted team, comprising engineers, scientists, farmers, maintenance workers, and operations personnel. The students’ active participation and thoughtfully crafted questions not only demonstrated their keen interest but also earned accolades from Mr. McGuire, underscoring the profound depth of their understanding.

CASB Fall Sports Make Big Impact

Our Career Academy high school volleyball and cross-country teams excelled during the fall season, achieving notable success both on and off the field. Impressively, five of our fall sport athletes received Academic All-Conference honors, with four hailing from the volleyball team and one from cross country. These outstanding athletes, all juniors or seniors who played varsity sports, maintained an impressive overall GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Furthermore, our teams secured recognition in the Hoosier Plains All-Conference, with Zion Taylor, Madeline Long, and Mason Rhodes earning 1st Team All-Conference honors, while Tala Tannir and Cierra Taylor secured well-deserved 2nd Team All-Conference distinctions. This accomplishment reflects the dedication and skill of our athletes.

Notably, both the volleyball and cross-country teams reached historic milestones by boasting the largest rosters in school history. Madeline Long made history by becoming our first-ever female regional qualifier in cross country, adding a special touch to the season’s achievements.

Congratulations to all our CASB fall sport athletes and coaches for their hard work, determination, and outstanding accomplishments.
